Ministry of Shipping road Transport & Highways asked for the consultants for logical numbering of national highways in India and the work is going on for finalisation of the same. After submission of the final report by the consultant the government will soon be changing the numbers of all national highways. The present numbering is haphazard, illogical and cluttered according to Mr Kamal Nath, minister for roads, transport and highways it is to be numbered comprehensively. Our highways are erratically numbered , 1 is somewhere, 3 is somewhere else. We are changing that to ensure a clear system of numbering, so everyone knows what goes from east to west, or north to south, Mr Nath said, during his road show in the UK to attract overseas investments for the governments targets of attracting $10 billion in infrastructure over two years Of this, about $3-4 billion is expected in equity, while for the rest the government is looking at creating new debt instruments like infrastructure bonds and securitization of receivables , accessing the capital market, and other such measures, added Ms Chanda Kochar, chief executive of ICICI, who is also on the road show.
