Ways of turning around the bachelor space

Empty beer bottles, endless piles of old newspapers, untidy spaces and clutter all around - this is it. The obvious tell-tale signs of a bachelor’s pad. And 25-year-old Tushar Sharma’s apartment was no different. Tushar’s day begins frantically each morning, often tripping through the clutter spread all over. And though he’s tried several times to get things in order, Tushar’s home almost always looks like any other bachelor residence - a mess. ' However, there are ways of turning around the bachelor space into a cool, classy place. The advantage here is that one can mould this space entirely to their liking. A bachelor’s living area does not necessarily have to look messy and disorganised. Intelligently-designed utilitarian furniture which efficiently uses space can go a long way in creating an organised and well-balanced look. Multi-functional daybeds and contemporary designed lounges are great options to dress up the ambience and personality of the room. Dressing up the room is important to add some element of style here. Hence, lounge chairs, bean bags or floor cushions showing off a relaxed ‘n’ cool demeanour are a good choice. Bulky furniture items can at best be avoided as they not only occupy a lot of space but also make the place look very formal. Using offbeat colours to do up the walls can dramatically help in making a bachelor pad feel ‘alive.’ Don’t forget to pay attention to the lighting basics. Options of floor lamps as well as lighting on dimmers can give the den a snug feel. Interior designer Akshika Luthra Hemnani feels that men are more house-proud now, hence they like to bring in a fine element of style even if they are staying alone. They have widely travelled so they tend to pick up from all over and develop a strong aesthetic sense. Hence going out of their way to do up a place is not uncommon. Men don’t like dainty furniture items, they would rather go in for solid, big pieces. They can use leather as that is easy to maintain. Using wooden furniture is another option. Minimalist design concepts will be ideal in these apartments. Walls can also be done up with a rough texture as that is far easier to maintain than a smooth surface.” Ample storage space can help reduce clutter. Well equipped units that allow storage, even in the kitchen and wardrobes can help in making the place look more organised. In fact, the place can be given a more fun look with casual decor items thrown in. The place can be made more warm by showing loose cushions, nice window treatments or a couple of rugs around the house. A nice bar which makes for a cozy corner in the house when friends come by will make the place more funky. chilled out zone with an attractive décor quality and aesthetic value to it....now, does that really sound like a bachelor’s house to you? You bet it does.
