IT IS SHEAR WASTAGE OF PUBLIC MONEY AND CREATING ENVIRONMENTAL IMBALANCES. Unfortunately UP has been targetted badly by political parties for creating parks, monumental structures during their regime.

Every political party SP & BSP had tried to do so at the cost of the public money, wastage of natural resources, creating stony structures not suitable due to climate reasons, high maintenance cost. What could be the real motive of developing parks, monumnets by using public money and keep close eye for really improving the living conditions of poors. The UP present chief minister Mayawati’s had a ambitious dream to find herself in carved stoned monuments, statues in stone jungles being created by destroying existing greenry. The Lucknow and Noida had been the victims of this syndrome. RWA and other sociations had resisted this activity by in large even in public interest litigation (PIL) is filed in the Supreme Court questioning the wastage of public funds by Mayawati to build her own statues and memorials.

This is really unfortunate with us that other parties have started critising the activity on the basis of political grounds whenever money involved in these projects could be utilised to improved living conditions of down trodden in UP. As per the Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav statement they will bulldoze all the structures once his party returns to power, Is it really solution to solve this issue? Congress in better position in UP has also questioned the graft in the supply of stones for building the BSP leaders’ statues and memorials.

Smeeling the gravity of the problem and anticipating adverse order by the Supreme Court on the PIL concerned, Ms. Mayawati hurriedly unveiled 15 statues of herself and her mentor Kanshi Ram on Thursday night, almost nine days ahead of the original July 3 schedule. The important issue is the what are the parameters for development of common mass of the state parks, monuments, improvement of living conditions, arrangement of regular work and proper roof for all?

Ever since she came into power in UP two years ago, Ms Mayawati has unveiled several projects involving construction of memorials and statues of herself and other Dalit leaders. The cost involved runs into several thousand crores. Infact, thousands of priceless trees have been cut in Noida’s green belt to make way for a sprawling memorial.    Mayawati’s statues are seen as an unaesthetic attempt to cast her in stone, complete with garish details like her trademark handbag. The lack of aesthetics apart, her “memorial” obsession has run into widespread criticism as it is seen as an assault on the public exchequer.

These type of development are not need of the hour and should be condemed by all interested to see our state as developed. We may need all these at the later stage when the state is developed at all the fronts e.g. basic infrastructure, housing for all, work guranttee better living conditions specifically for masses livings in slums and squatters. It is the time the people representatives should be made accoutable to assess the benefits for the states by taking these types of lavish

projects in the state. Import of bulk of sand stones, carving maintenance, micro environmental degradation are the real issues to be addressed. The cost-benefits analyais of the projects by using public money should be done compulsory and accountability of any wastage done should be fixed.
